THE ARTS COME ALIVE THIS MONTH AT OLD DOMINION

From choir performances to dance and art exhibits, Old Dominion University will present several arts activities in November. Unless specifically noted, all events are free and open to the public. Locations are on Old Dominion's Norfolk campus unless otherwise listed.

Friday, Nov. 3 � Cultural Matinee: "East Meets West: Landscape and Literature," a lecture and slide show focusing on landscape as a source of inspiration for literature in various Eastern and Western cultures. 3 p.m. in the Burgess Room, ninth floor of the Batten Arts and Letters Building. Monday, Nov. 6 � A performance by the University Concert Choir. 7:30 p.m. in the atrium of the Diehn Fine and Performing Arts Center. For more information call 683-4061.

Tuesday, Nov. 7 � Faculty Recital with James Kosnik, associate professor of music. 8 p.m. at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, 1004 Graydon Ave., Norfolk. For more information call 683-4061.

Thursday, Nov. 9, through Saturday, Nov. 11 � University Dance Theatre fall concert. 8 p.m. Thursday and Friday, 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. Saturday at University Theatre. Cost is $7 for general admission and $5 for Old Dominion students. For more information call 683-3002 or 683-4354.

Thursday, Nov. 9, through Sunday, Dec. 3 � "Field of Vision," an exhibit of paintings, sculptures and assemblages by Prix de Rome winner Bert Long. Opening reception is at 6 p.m. Nov. 9 at the University Gallery, 350 W. 21st St., Norfolk. Gallery hours are noon to 3 p.m. Monday through Thursday, noon to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 1-4 p.m. Sunday. For more information call 683-2355.

Thursday, Nov. 16 � Multimedia recital by pianist John Ferguson, assisted by Creo, an ensemble under the direction of Andrey Kasparov, featuring works by Scriabin, Reich, Cage and Monk; poetry by Cummings and Poe; and reproductions of paintings by Pollock. 7:30 p.m. at Chandler Recital Hall in the Diehn Fine and Performing Arts Center. Friday, Nov. 17 through Sunday, Dec. 3 � Old Dominion University Theatre production of Arthur Schnitzler's classic "Anatol," directed by Gerald Schwartz. 8 p.m. Tuesday-Saturday and 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Stables Theatre.
