PEACE CORPS DIRECTOR TO SPEAK TO WORLD AFFAIRS COUNCIL NOV. 16
Mark L. Schneider, the director of the United States Peace Corps, will be the guest speaker at the World Affairs Council dinner at 6:15 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 16, in Webb University Center.
The cost is $20 for members, $24 for nonmembers and $12 for students, and the deadline for reservations is noon Tuesday, Nov. 14.
Schneider became the 15th director of the Peace Corps in December 1999. He brought an extensive background in public service, as well as a deep commitment to the Peace Corps and its work. Mr. Schneider served as a Peace Corps Volunteer in El Salvador from 1966 to 1968 and is the second returned Peace Corps Volunteer to head the agency.
Prior to his appointment as director, he served six years as the assistant administrator of the Bureau for Latin America and the Caribbean at the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), where he directed U.S. foreign assistance programs in this hemisphere. Mr. Schneider served as chief of the Office of Analysis and Strategic Planning and as a senior policy advisor at the Pan American Health Organization.
