DANCE THEATRE PRESENTS ANNUAL CONCERT NOV. 9-11

The Old Dominion University Dance Theatre will present its annual dance concert, highlighting faculty and student choreography in a program of contemporary work, Nov. 9-11. Performances are scheduled for 8 p.m. Nov. 9-10, and 2 and 8 p.m. Nov. 11 at the University Theatre.

Professional dancers Todd Rosenlieb and Camillo Rodriguez will join the University Dance Theatre in performing "Now I Am Walking with Lucy," a new work by guest choreographer Laura Pettibone-Wright. "Now I Am..." was created in remembrance of composer Lucia Dlugoszewski, the wife of modern dance pioneer Erik Hawkins and a personal inspiration to Wright, who also will present "Inner Warriors," a modern dance work choreographed to a score by Ekova that explores the inner search for strength and peace.

Visiting assistant professor Kevin Magee's "The River" explores the symbolic relationship between water and sacrifice. At times lithe and fluid, then sharp and contorted, the movement quality and psychological tone of "The River" is inspired by the film director Lars von Trier and performed to an ambient jazz score by Jan Garbarek.

Dance program director Marilyn Marloff and adjunct faculty member Kathryn Finney will perform "Brainstorm," a reconstruction of guest artist Stacy Sagely's collaboration with San Diego dancer Faith Jensen-Ismay. Set to music by Mickey Hart, "Brainstorm" pulsates with energy depicting the manipulation of mind and body.

Finney offers "Hornpipe for Eight" to a lively score by Mark O'Connor. This upbeat romp is based on traditional folk steps and square-dance patterns with a twist of the contemporary.

Additional works by faculty and student choreographers round off an evening of original and diverse dances.

Tickets are available at the door: $7 for general admission and $5 for students. For more information call 683-3002 or 683-4354.
