CLARK NAMED DIRECTOR OF MULTICULTURAL STUDENT SERVICES AT OLD DOMINION

Lesa C. Clark of Hampton, formerly the interim director of the office of Multicultural Student Services at Old Dominion University, has been named as the permanent director.

Clark began her interim position Aug. 10, when former director Carretta Cooke left the university. Clark served as assistant director of multicultural student services since 1997 under Cooke, developing and coordinating programs and events for the Hugo A. Owens African-American Cultural Center.

She also coordinated the Virginia Student Recruitment and Retention Program and advised the Ebony Impact Gospel Choir, as well as the Black Student Alliance, Black History Month Planning Committee and the Black Male Summit and Sisterhood Symposium conference advisory committees.

Clark received her master's degree in education from Regent University and her bachelor's degree from Adelphi University.

She won an Outstanding Faculty Award and the Student Organization Advisor of the Year Award, both from the Office of Student Activities and Leadership, as well as the NAACP President's Choice Award this year.

She is a past recipient of a Class Act Award from the Office of Student Services. Clark also was named Most Inspiring Faculty by a student in the College of Business and Public Administration who won the Outstanding Scholar Award.

Before coming to Old Dominion, Clark was a consultant and diversity trainer and independent school scholarship coordinator for the Urban League of Hampton Roads.

She was a program administrator for Broken Chains International, where she developed and coordinated after-school educational programs for youth from public housing communities. She was also a transition specialist assistant for the Virginia Department of Education and Department of Rehabilitative Services in Norfolk.
