OLD DOMINION TO CO-SPONSOR CONTRACTING SYMPOSIUM NOV. 2

"2001: A Contracting Odyssey-Changing Responsibilities and Accountabilities," a symposium for policy makers and operations personnel from both government and industry, will be held Thursday, Nov. 2, at the Sheraton Norfolk Waterside Hotel.

Co-sponsored by Old Dominion University's Center for Continuing Engineering Education (C2E2), the Tidewater Association of Service Contractors (TASC) and the Tidewater Government Industry Council (TGIC), the symposium will cover topics such as political landscape, financial realities, organizational challenges and public-private partnerships. It will be held from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and costs $149. The exhibitor's fee, which includes two individual registrations, is $350.

U.S. Rep. Owen B. Pickett will present the keynote address, "View from the Hill," at 8 a.m. Barry E. DuVal, Virginia secretary of commerce and trade, will give the luncheon address, "Virginia IT/Revolution in Government Business."

Other presentations include:
� "Financial Realities," Charles P. Nemfakos, senior civilian official for the Office of the Assistant Secretary of the Navy;
� "Acquisition Force Challenges," Stan Soloway, deputy undersecretary of defense (acquisition reform) and director of defense reform; and
� "Public/Private Partnerships," RADM Kathleen K. Paige, chief engineer, assistant secretary of the Navy for research, development and acquisition, and director, Theater Air and Missile Defense and Systems Engineering.

The symposium will also feature a panel discussion, moderated by WTKR News Director Barbara Ciara, on "The Government-Industry Matrix: Business in the Virtual Age." Panelists include Charles P. Nemfakos, senior civilian official for the Office of the Assistant Secretary of the Navy; RADM Gwilym Jenkins, deputy for acquisition and business management for the Assistant Secretary of the Navy (Research, Development and Acquisition); Eugene Newman, business and technical manager at the Joint Training, Analysis and Simulation Center, U.S. Joint Forces Command; and Kevin Coleman, vice president and chief strategist at Netscape.
