LADY MONARCH FIELD HOCKEY SQUAD RECLAIMS TOP SPOT IN NATION
The Old Dominion University field hockey team, with a 2-1 victory over Maryland this past Sunday, has moved to the top of the pack. The Lady Monarchs, according to the STX/NFHCA Division I National Coaches Poll, are the #1 team in the country this week.
This marks the first return to a top ranking for Old Dominion since November 1, 1998, weeks before the team claimed its eighth national championship. During the 1998 season, the Lady Monarchs were ranked #1 in all but three weeks of the season.
Old Dominion is currently 15-1 on the season, 4-0 in the Colonial Athletic Association. The Lady Monarchs have four regular season games remaining. They will return to Foreman Field for an October 28 meeting with #2 North Carolina. Old Dominion will host the CAA Tournament November 4-5 and will also play host to the Field Hockey Final Four November 17-19.
