JAPAN DAY SLATED FOR OCT. 20
Old Dominion University will present Japan Day from 9:45 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, Oct. 20 at Chandler Recital Hall, Diehn Fine and Performing Arts Center. The event is designed to draw attention to the university's Japanese minor and celebrate Japanese culture.
Festivities will include:
� a koto performance from 10-11 a.m. by Kyoko Okamoto and Mizuki Hamada of the Washington Toho Koto Society;
� a tea ceremony from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. by Kensaku Yuba of Ura Senke School and Janet Ikeda of Washington & Lee University;
� calligraphy with Shoko Tajima from 12:30-1:30 p.m.;
� flower arranging with Yasuko Zucker of Ikenobo School from 1:30-2:30 p.m.; and
� a kimono show and demonstration with Machiko Sawayama from 3-4 p.m.
The day will conclude with a reception from 4-5 p.m.
The public is invited to attend any portion of this free daylong event.
Japan Day is sponsored by the College of Arts and Letters, Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures, Institute of Asian Studies and Center for Regional and Global Study.
