OLD DOMINION SPONSORS INTERNATIONAL READING ASSOCIATION FORUM OCT. 20
The Old Dominion University Darden College of Education's Reading Center is sponsoring the International Reading Association's Urban Diversity Commission Forum, "Urban Teachers & Parents Forge Ahead," from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday, Oct. 20, in Brown Memorial Hall at Norfolk State University.
The keynote speaker will be Dr. Yvonne Thornton, author of "The Ditchdigger's Daughters: A Black Family's Astonishing Success Story," a memoir about Thornton's father, who lived to see his dreams of a better life for his children come true.
A superintendents' panel featuring area leaders viewpoints on urban education and sessions on teaching and learning strategies with remarks by Carmelita Williams, president of the International Reading Association.
Registration costs are $25 for educators and $10 for parents and students. Registration deadline is Tuesday, Oct. 10.
