OLD DOMINION ALUMNUS ADM. WILLIAM J. FALLON PROMOTED TO 4-STAR ADMIRAL, RECOMMENDED FOR PENTAGON POST

Adm. William J. Fallon, a 1982 graduate of Old Dominion University and a Distinguished Alumni award winner last year, has been selected for promotion to the four-star rank of admiral and recommended for reassignment to the Pentagon as the Navy's vice chief of naval operations.

Fallon, who serves as commander of the Norfolk-based 2nd Fleet, received a master's degree from Old Dominion. He was one of nine distinguished alumni honored at the university's annual Founder's Day luncheon in 1999.

Commissioned as a Navy officer in 1967, Fallon began his Naval aviation service flying in the RA-5C Vigilante with a combat deployment to Vietnam. He served in flying assignments with Attack Squadrons and Carrier Air Wings for 24 years. His awards include the Defense Distinguished Service Medal, Defense Superior Service Medal, Legion of Merit and Bronze Star.
