OCEAN, EARTH AND ATMOSPHERIC SCIENCES SERIES ANNOUNCED

The following speakers have been announced for Old Dominion University's Department of Ocean, Earth and Atmospheric Sciences' fall seminar series:

Thursday, Sept. 21 - "Impact of Sediment Processes on Water Quality in the Neuse River Estuary," Marc Alperin, Department of Marine Sciences, University of North Carolina.

Sept. 28 - "Detailed Morphology and Bottom Characterization on the New Jersey Shelf: The Influence of Sea Level Rise on the Evolution of Mesoscale Siliciclastic Bedforms," John Goff, Institute for Geophysics, University of Texas at Austin.

Oct. 5 - "Physical Behavior of Some High and Low Turbidity UK Estuaries and
Consequences for Nutrients and Dissolved Oxygen," Reginald Uncles, Center for Coastal and Marine Sciences, Plymouth Marine Laboratory.

Oct. 12 - "Oscillations in the Diurnal-Inertial Band: The Alternative Tides?", John Simpson, School of Ocean Sciences, University of Wales, Bangor.

Oct. 19 - "Virginia Coastal Plain Ground Water: Geology, Resource Management,
Computer Modeling, and the Chesapeake Impact Crater," Randy McFarland, U.S. Geological Survey.

Oct. 26 - "Particle Transport and Fluid Flow in the Lower Chesapeake Bay: Mechanisms Responsible for Accumulation and Trapping of Plankton," Raleigh Hood, Horn Point Laboratory, Center for Environmental Science, University of Maryland.

Nov. 2 - "On the Design of Observational Arrays for Coastal Ocean Modeling," Philip Bogden, Department of Marine Sciences, University of Connecticut.

Nov. 9 - "Mesoscale Processes and Primary Productivity: A Comparison of Coastal and Open Ocean Upwelling Using Bio-Optical Drifters and Moorings,"
Mark Abbott, College of Oceanic and Atmospheric Sciences, Oregon State University.

Nov. 16 -"The Molecular-Level Characterization of Water-Column Organic Matter," Elizabeth Minor, Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, Old Dominion University.

Nov. 30 -"Uptake, Regeneration and Photochemical Processes Involving Dissolved Organic Nitrogen in an Open Ocean, Coastal and Two Riverine Ecosystems," Deborah Bronk, Virginia Institute of Marine Science, College of William and Mary.

Dec. 7 - "Oceanography at the National Science Foundation," Donald Rice, Chemical Oceanography Program, Ocean Sciences Division, National Science Foundation.

The seminars are held in room 200 of the Oceanography and Physics Building from 3-4 p.m. Prior to the seminar, refreshments are available from 2:30-3 p.m. in the fourth-floor lobby.
