ANNUAL LITERARY FESTIVAL FEATURED ON WEB IN LIBRARY'S FIRST DIGITAL EXHIBIT
The Old Dominion University libraries, in collaboration with the university's English department, have completed a new Web exhibit chronicling the history of the nationally recognized Old Dominion University Annual Literary Festival, now in its 23rd year. The site is the University Libraries' first full-scale digital exhibit.
The Web exhibit, located at http://www.lib.odu.edu/litfest, features brochures from each festival, beginning with the 1978 Poetry Jam which spurred the beginning of the annual event. Photographs and brief biographies of each year's speakers, as well as links to media coverage of the events, videos of speakers and real-audio interviews with event coordinators, are included on the site.
All brochures, posters, news articles and video featured on the site were donated to the University Archives in spring 1999 by the faculty of the English department. These materials are housed in Perry Library's Special Collections section.
The 23rd Annual Literary Festival will be held Oct. 2-6 on the Norfolk campus. Featured speakers include Ernest Gaines, Tim O'Brien, Steven Millhauser and Brian Silberman.
