JOE BARANIK NAMED ASSISTANT WRESTLING COACH

Old Dominion wrestling coach Gray Simons has named Joe Baranik assistant coach. Baranik joins the Monarchs after several years of coaching at both the collegiate and high school level.

Prior to Old Dominion, he served as an assistant coach at the Unites States Military Academy (West Point), University of Virginia and Slippery Rock University. Baranik has also been the assistant scholastic director of the National Wrestling Coaching Association for the last three years.

A native of Altoona, Pa., Baranik served as head coach at Maury High School in 1989 and 1990, guiding the Commodores to district titles each year. Most recently he served as head coach at Hollidaysburg High School in Pennsylvania, where he guided his team to a fifth-place state finish in 1998.

Baranik received a bachelor's degree from Lock Haven University in 1982 and a masters degree from Slippery Rock University in 1983.
