ODU TO HOST NCAA FIELD HOCKEY NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP

Old Dominion University has been selected to host the 2000 NCAA Division I field hockey national championship, November 17-19 at Foreman Field, as announced by the NCAA Field Hockey committee.

Four teams will compete for the coveted NCAA crown, with semifinals set for 4 and 6:30 pm on Friday, Nov. 17 and the national championship game at 2 pm on Sunday, Nov. 19. Tickets are priced at $10 and include admission to both days of the tournament.

"We are thrilled that Old Dominion is hosting the national championship. Old Dominion has such a storied tradition and is so impressively successful in field hockey that it is fitting to showcase the sport in Norfolk," says Colleen Lim, chair of the NCAA Field Hockey committee.

Old Dominion hosted the national championship in both 1985 and 1986. The Lady Monarchs have won an unprecedented eight national crowns, winning its most recent title in 1998.

"We are honored to have been selected to host the prestigious NCAA national championship," says Old Dominion athletic director Jim Jarrett. "Our selection is a tribute to the ODU field hockey program, directed by Head Coach Beth Anders."

"We are excited about having the opportunity to market this great event," Jarrett added. "The Hampton Roads area has demonstrated outstanding excellence among its youth and high school field hockey programs and this tournament will provide a great opportunity for these young women to see the finest collegiate teams and student-athletes in the nation competing for the national title."

In addition to the NCAA games, Old Dominion will also host an NCAA field hockey Y.E.S. clinic on Saturday, Nov. 18, for youth and the National Field Hockey Coaches Association North/South Senior All-Star Games, featuring a Division I and Division II/III contest showcasing the top senior athletes in the nation.

Tickets for the tournament will go on sale Aug. 15 and will be available by contacting the ticket office or ordering on-line at odusports.com. For more information, contact the Athletic Ticket Office at 683-4444.
