Old Dominion University junior shortstop Tim Hummel, of Montgomery, N.Y., was selected to BASEBALL AMERICA's first team All-American squad. He is the first Monarch baseball player to be named to all five All-American teams in the same year.

Hummel was selected in the second round by the Chicago White Sox. He signed with the White Sox and will report to their Burlington, Iowa team in the Midwest League this weekend.

Besides BASEBALL AMERICA, Hummel was also selected to the first team by COLLEGIATE BASEBALL and BASEBALL WEEKLY. He earned second team All-American honors by ABCA (American Baseball Coaches Association) and NCBWA (National Baseball Writers Association). He is also the first Monarch to be named first team All-American three times in the same year.

He completed his career with .508 career on-base percentage which are both records at Old Dominion and the Colonial Athletic Association. The Monarchs compiled a 33-24-1 record and were the number one seed in the CAA Tournament. Old Dominion earned an at-large bid the NCAA Tournament in Clemson, SC.

The last Monarch to earn first team All-American honors was George Sells in 1990 by COLLEGIATE BASEBALL. Mark Wasinger (1982) and Todd Azar (1987) were the first to be named All-Americans by multiple organizations in the same year.
