BRUCE RUBIN SELECTED AS INTERIM DEAN FOR COLLEGE OF BUSINESS AND PUBLIC ADMINISTRATION

Provost Jo Ann Gora announced Friday that Bruce Rubin, director of the M.B.A. program and chair of the Insurance and Financial Services Center, has agreed to serve as interim dean of the College of Business and Public Administration. He will take over the duties of J. Taylor Sims, who is stepping down July 1 to return to teaching in the marketing department.

In a letter to the faculty and staff in the College of Business and Public Administration, Gora said, "As M.B.A. program director, Bruce has increased enrollment in the program, raised admission standards, developed the weekend M.B.A. program and added flexibility to the program in order to offer it on TELETECHNET. He will serve as interim dean until the position is filled."

Gora also reported that a search committee to select the new dean has been formed and will be chaired by William Swart, dean of the College of Engineering and Technology.

"The search process...will begin in September 2000," she said. "I hope the search will result in the selection of a dean who can begin in July 2001."

A member of the Old Dominion faculty since 1981, Rubin was appointed director for the Center for Insurance and Financial Services in 1993 and director of the M.B.A. program in 1994. He received a bachelor's degree in economics from New York University, an M.B.A., master's degree in economics and Ph.D. in financial economics from Case Western Reserve University.
