RUTH TRIPLETT HONORED AS DISABILITY SERVICES OUTSTANDING TEACHER OF THE YEAR
Ruth Triplett, associate professor of sociology and criminal justice, was presented the second Disability Services Outstanding Teacher of the Year Award on April 25.
Sponsored by the Office of Student Services, the award includes a check for $500, a certificate and a plaque that will be displayed in the Office of Disability Services.
Triplett, who received her bachelor's degree in criminal justice from Old Dominion in 1984, joined the faculty last fall after teaching nine years at Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas. She was one of 22 faculty members nominated for the honor by students registered with the disability services office.
Students were asked to identify a teacher who, because of style, skills and attitude, had made a positive impact on their learning experience at the university. Criteria included the ability to convey knowledge of subject matter, effectiveness of teaching methods, willingness to assist, openness to accommodations, consideration of students' individual needs and accessibility.
