OLD DOMINION RECEIVES SITE LICENSE FOR GEOGRAPHIC INFORMATION SYSTEM SOFTWARE

Old Dominion University recently acquired a university-wide site license for a leading geographic information systems (GIS) software product, called GeoMedia.

GeoMedia is a software program designed to integrate and maintain geographic data integrity from multiple vendors and standard data sources. GeoMedia provides a set of spatial analysis tools, including maps of new cities, Department of Highway high-end mapping and surveying functions.

Beginning in the fall semester, about 70 Old Dominion University students enrolled in Professor Joseph Betit's GIS course will be able to obtain a free copy of GeoMedia for home use during the semester.

"Our partnership with Old Dominion exemplifies the growing trend of higher education and private industry jointly addressing the technology needs for future GIS professionals," said Preetha Pulusani, executive vice president of Intergraph's Mapping/GIS business. "Implementing tools like GeoMedia in their curriculum and distance learning programs enables a broader base of students to receive hands-on experience to learn how geospatial data can impact everyday life."

Intergraph, a global company conducting business in 65 countries worldwide, provides technical solutions and systems integration for transportation, government, utilities, communications, marine and public safety industries.
