JANE HAGER NAMED INTERIM DEAN OF DARDEN COLLEGE OF EDUCATION

Jane Hager, associate dean and professor of educational curriculum and instruction, was named interim dean of the Darden College of Education on Friday, announced Provost Jo Ann Gora. Hager will take over the duties of Donna Evans, who is stepping down June 25 to become dean of the College of Education at Ohio State University.

"Jane is knowledgeable about all aspects of the college and I believe she is the ideal candidate for the position of interim dean," said Provost Jo Ann Gora, who announced the appointment in a letter to faculty and staff in the College of Education.

The search for a new dean will begin in September, led by a committee chaired by Karen Gould, dean of the College of Arts and Letters. Gora expects the search to result in the selection of a dean who can begin in July 2001. Hager will serve as interim dean until the position is filled.

An associate dean for the last six years, Hager has been responsible for TELETECHNET activities, summer school, marketing efforts and the off-campus budget. She co-chaired the recent NCATE accreditation efforts and continues to coordinate activities of the Council of Teacher Education.

Hager joined the Old Dominion faculty in 1977 as assistant professor of educational curriculum and instruction. She was named associate professor in 1982, full professor in 1989 and associate dean in 1994. Hager earned her doctorate in reading education from the University of Missouri, Kansas City. She earned her bachelor's degree in elementary education from Missouri Western University and her master's degree in reading from Northwest Missouri State University.
