GREAT COMPUTER CHALLENGE TO BE HELD AT OLD DOMINION SATURDAY

More than 600 area students in grades K-5 will have the opportunity to compete in the 15th annual Great Computer Challenge (Junior Division) at Old Dominion University's Webb University Center from 8:30 a.m. - 2 p.m., Saturday, May 20.

Sponsored by the Consortium for Interactive Instruction, WHRO and Old Dominion University, the Great Computer Challenge offers a competitive opportunity for students in grades K-5 to demonstrate their skills in various computer applications and computer programming. Students in grades 6-12 competed in the senior division Great Computer Challenge in March.

Using creativity and high-tech equipment, students in the junior division participate in contests that test their computer skills in primary publishing, graphic arts, desktop publishing and desktop presentations. In addition, students can participate in an Internet scavenger hunt.

Students compete as members of teams from their school, with a teacher coach. Levels for competition include level 1 for K-2 students and level 2 for students in grades 3-5. Workshops are also conducted throughout the day for teachers and parents involved in the Challenge.
