FACULTY MEMBERS HONORED AT AWARDS DINNER
Old Dominion University honored six faculty members and one administrator at its annual Faculty Awards Dinner held April 27 in Webb University Center.
Charles E. Wilson Jr., associate professor of English and graduate program director, was awarded the A. Rufus Tonelson Faculty Award, which honors excellence in teaching, research or service. He received a $2,000 check as part of the award, which is sponsored by the Alumni Association. It is the highest award Old Dominion presents to faculty members.
Hani E. Elsayed-Ali, an outstanding nationally prominent researcher and associate professor of engineering, received the Outstanding Faculty Research Award, which includes a cash award of $1,000.
Lynn Schultz, an instructor of educational curriculum and instruction, was awarded the Instructional Technology Teaching Award, which includes a $4,000 grant to enhance the winner's office or classroom computing environment with new software or peripheral devices.
Edward S. Neukrug, chair of the Department of Educational Leadership and Counseling, received the TELETECHNET Faculty of the Year Award, which includes a $500 cash bonus. It recognizes outstanding faculty who teach televised courses to students at sites throughout Virginia and other states via TELETECHNET and is based largely on student evaluations.
Karen L. Rossignol, a graduate teaching assistant in the university's oceanography program, received the Outstanding Graduate Teaching Assistant Award -- Laboratory Instructor. Jennifer Sunshine Sloggie, a graduate teaching assistant in the English department, received the Outstanding Graduate Teaching Assistant Award -- Recitation Instructor.
Old Dominion's Association of University Administrators presented its Administrator of the Year Award to Martha Smith Sharpe, director of University Planning and Institutional Research since 1993. The award includes a $500 cash bonus.
Susan Kent, professor of sociology and criminal justice, was named an Eminent Scholar at the banquet.
