CRESTAR INVESTMENT STRATEGIST ALAN M. GAYLE TO SPEAK TODAY TO THE ECONOMICS CLUB OF HAMPTON ROADS

Alan M. Gayle, senior investment strategist at Crestar Asset Management Co., will speak to the Old Dominion University Economics Club of Hampton Roads on Tuesday, May 9.

Co-sponsored by Old Dominion's College of Business and Public Administration and the Economics Club of Hampton Roads, the luncheon will begin at noon at the Sheraton Waterside Hotel in downtown Norfolk. Due to limited space, reservations are required. The cost is $30 for nonmembers.

As senior investment strategist for one of the largest investment advisers in the mid-Atlantic, Gayle analyzes global economic and financial conditions and their potential impact on stock and bond markets. He is a member of the fixed-income and equity management teams within Crestar and is responsible for developing and communicating the investment outlook and strategy.

During his 23-year tenure at Crestar, Gayle served as the chairman of the American Bankers Association's Economic Advisory Committee. In this capacity, he met directly with the Federal Reserve Board of Governors to discuss economic forecasts, monetary policy and banking issues. He also testified before Congress on economic and regulatory issues affecting the banking industry.

Gayle has been a guest instructor at the Federal Reserve School for Bank Examiners and has taught at the Stonier Graduate School of Bank Management and the American Institute of Banking. He served on the Governor's International Trade Commission in Virginia in 1987, and is a former president of the Richmond Association of Business Economists.

Gayle is a member of the Blue Chip Financial Forecast panel and is a fixed-income market columnist for CNBC.com. He received a master's of economics degree from Virginia Commonwealth University and a bachelor's in economics from the College of William and Mary.
