"WELL-FOUNDED FEAR" LOCAL PREMIERE IS WEDNESDAY AT UNIVERSITY FILM AND VIDEO FESTIVAL
The Hampton Roads premiere of the Sundance Film Festival selected film "Well-Founded Fear" will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 12, in conjunction with the third annual Old Dominion University Film and Video Festival, "The Kaleidoscopic Lens: Representing Diversity in Film and Television," which runs through Friday.
The 1999 film, a behind-the-scenes look at the U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service, will be followed by commentary by the filmmakers, Shari Robertson and Michael Camerini at the Naro Expanded Cinema in Norfolk.

9 a.m. "Tampopo" ("Dandelion"). -- In this comedy a Japanese trucker helps Tampopo perfect her fast-food noodle restaurant (rated R, 114 min., 1986, English subtitles). Commentator: Mieko Ishibashi, Old Dominion University. Location: Webb University Center Hampton/Newport News Room.
11:30 a.m. Lecture: "Developing International Health-Related TV Programs." Noted communication scholar Everett M. Rogers of the University of New Mexico will show video examples and discuss the role of local culture in developing health-related television programming in such countries as China, India and Tanzania (60 min.). Location: Webb University Center Hampton/Newport News Room.
1 p.m. "Miss Universe in Peru" This Peruvian documentary juxtaposes the glamorous facade of the 1982 Miss Universe Pageant in Peru with the real life struggles of indigenous women and the reporters and feminists who protested the event (32 min., 1985). Commentator: Regina Root, Old Dominion University. Location: Webb University Center Hampton/Newport News Room.
3 p.m. "Down in the Delta" -- After not making it in the big city a young mother returns to her family and home in the South; directed by Maya Angelou and starring Alfre Woodard and Wesley Snipes (rated PG-13, 111 min., 1998). Includes a performance by the University Speech Chorus. Commentator: Carretta Cooke, Old Dominion University. Location: Webb University Center Hampton/Newport News Room.
4:30 p.m. "Zulu Dawn" -- Zulu warriors defeat Britain's finest at the Battle of Isandhlwana in South Africa. An epic re-creation of this unexpected "native" victory starring Burt Lancaster and Peter O'Toole (rated PG, 98 min., 1979). Commentator: Nate Kohn, producer of the film. All on-campus sessions are free. Most films scheduled at the Naro carry an admission fee ($6 for adults for shows at 7 p.m. or later, $4.50 afternoons; senior citizens 65 and older and children 12 and younger, $4.50; Old Dominion students with ID, $1 discount on evening films).
