OLD DOMINION'S VIDEO-STREAMED COURSES FEATURED IN WASHINGTON POST

Old Dominion University's latest innovative addition to its national TELETECHNET distance learning program was the subject of a feature story April 7 on the front page of The Washington Post's Metro section.

"The Old E-College Try, More and More Schools Reaching Students Over the Internet" relates the story of Old Dominion student Robin RiCharde of Lexington, Va., who received her bachelor's degree from the university and is now working on a master's in special education -- all via distance learning. Currently, RiCharde takes classes on her home computer through synchronous-streaming video and is able to participate in class discussions through audio software.

The article also quotes President James V. Koch and faculty members Steve Wells (engineering) and John Keeling (business) on the new technology.

Old Dominion offers six degree programs through synchronous-streaming video and plans to expand the program university-wide. TELETECHNET, the largest televised distance learning program in the country, offers more than 30 degree programs via live, high-quality broadcasts with two-way audio to community colleges and other sites across Virginia, as well as to sites in Arizona, Indiana, Washington and the Bahamas, and to Navy ships deployed around the world.
