OLD DOMINION ANNOUNCES MODEST INCREASES IN COMPREHENSIVE FEES

Old Dominion University's Board of Visitors approved tuition and fee rates for the 2000-01 academic year.

As mandated by the General Assembly, there will be no increase in tuition for in-state undergraduates next year. Fees will increase slightly, adding about $12 per course to in-state undergraduate students' costs. For Virginia undergraduates who live on campus, the increases in fees plus room and board will be held to a combined 2.7 percent.

For in-state undergraduates taking 30 credit hours per year (full-time status), the increase in fees will require an extra $120. Tuition and fees for a full-time in-state undergraduate living off campus will be $3,916 per year beginning next fall. Room and board charges, which cover self-supporting operations such as housing and food services, will increase only $118 in 2000-01 for all students who live on campus.

In-state graduate students as well as out-of-state undergraduate and graduate students will see a 5.24 percent increase in tuition and fees (2 percent of this increase has been mandated by the General Assembly to pay for faculty raises). Students at Old Dominion's higher education centers in Hampton and Virginia Beach will pay the same in tuition and fees as students at the Norfolk campus.

Old Dominion will also implement a state-approved technology fee in 2000-01, becoming the last Virginia university to do so. Overall, the technology fee will range from $1.34 to $3.76 per credit hour.
