HREDA PRESIDENT C. JONES HOOKS TO SPEAK TO ECONOMICS CLUB TODAY

C. Jones Hooks, president of the Hampton Roads Economic Development Alliance (HREDA), will speak at the Old Dominion University Economics Club of Hampton Roads luncheon Tuesday, April 11.

The event, co-sponsored by Old Dominion's College of Business and Public Administration, will begin at noon at the Sheraton Norfolk Waterside in downtown Norfolk. The cost for non-members is $30. Due to limited space, reservations are required.

Hooks, an expert in diverse economic and community development, will discuss the activities of HREDA, a public-private regional partnership initiated to improve Hampton Roads' economic performance and global competitiveness.

Hooks' career began on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C., where he served as an assistant for intergovernmental relations and legislative aide to Georgia's First District congressman.

Prior to joining HREDA last August, Hooks was a senior manager in the strategic relocation and expansion services practice of KPMG Peat Marwick in Atlanta. During his time at KPMG, Hooks took an active role in site location for Fortune 500 companies.

From 1987 to 1997, Hooks was the president and chief executive officer of the Georgia Economic Development Commission and president of the Albany, Ga., Chamber of Commerce.

Hooks earned a bachelor's degree in business administration from the University of Georgia in 1975 and an M.B.A. from George Washington University in 1977.
