PRESIDENT KOCH NAMED HAMPTON ROADS MAN OF THE YEAR BY NORFOLK SPORTS CLUB

Old Dominion University President James V. Koch was named Hampton Roads Man of the Year by the Norfolk Sports Club at its 54th annual Jamboree Tuesday. More than 400 guests attended the event at the Sheraton-Waterside, where ESPN's football analyst Lee Corso served as the guest speaker.

President Koch received the Tom Ferguson Memorial Award for his commitment and leadership in intercollegiate athletics. Ferguson, a former local sportswriter, was one of the founders of the Sports Club and its annual awards program.

During the Koch presidency, the Monarchs and Lady Monarchs have captured eight national championships and had another 30 student-athletes named as Academic All-Americans. In addition, he was praised for his vision to construct a Convocation Center for the University.

Virginia Tech footbal coach Frank Beamer and Virginia running back Thomas Jones were among others honored.
