PARENTING SERIES FOR NEW AND EXPECTING PARENTS SET TO BEGIN TONIGHT
A three-part parenting series for expecting and new parents will begin Wednesday, March 29, at Old Dominion University. Sponsored by the Child Study Center, the weekly sessions will held from 7-8:30 p.m., in the Kiwanis Parenting Center of the Child Study Center.
The Wednesday sessions will offer open discussions on child development, overall goals of parenting, struggles and challenges of being a parent and positive techniques of discipline which will help parents to get off to a good start raising motivated, responsible and "likeable" children.
Katharine Kersey, chair of the early childhood, speech language pathology, and special education department at Old Dominion, and a nationally known expert on parenting and children's issues, will conduct the four sessions. The series will continue on March 29, April 5 and April 12.
Kersey is the author of three books: "Don't Take It Out on Your Kids," "Helping Your Child Handle Stress" and "The Art of Sensitive Parenting." She has also written a nationally syndicated newspaper column, "Raising Children (and Parents, Too)."
The cost is $50 per person (for one class or the entire series). For more information or to register, call 683-3207.
