ENVIRONMENTAL ENGINEERING TALK TO FOCUS ON WASTEWATER TREATMENT TECHNOLOGY

Michael Barbachem of URS-Greiner Woodward-Clyde, Inc. will present "Physicochemical Removal of Ammonia From Wastewater: The ARP Process" at 11 a.m. today in 239 Kaufman Hall, as part of the Environmental Engineering Seminar Series. His talk is free and open to the public.

Barbachem's presentation will describe the nature, scope, and findings of a third-party evaluation of a copyright-protected wastewater treatment technology identified as the ThermoEnergy Ammonia Recovery Process (ARP). The ARP is a reversible chemisorption process using a zinc-impregnated ion exchange resin, and it is unique in that it reduces the ammonia-nitrogen load in the solids processing liquor of municipal sewage treatment plants and recycles the recovered product into a pelletized ammonium salt that can be used as an agricultural fertilizer.

The presentation will include a description of the full-scale pilot plant processes and the results of the pilot plant study, including a discussion of the demonstrated ammonia recovery efficiency, operational variables and design parameters.

For more information about his talk, call 683-3753.
