EDWIN MCCAIN, THE ROOTS TO HEADLINE CONCERT AT OLD DOMINION UNIVERSITY APRIL 2

Contemporary pop artist Edwin McCain, best known for his hit "I'll Be," will be among three acts featured at Old Dominion University's spring concert at Foreman Field Sunday, April 2.

The concert will kick off at 3 p.m. with opening band LuckyTown. McCain will appear at 4 p.m., followed by the R&B, hip-hop and jazz group, The Roots, at 6 p.m. The rain site will be at the Field House.

Tickets are $2 in advance for Old Dominion students with university ID; $5 in advance for the general public; and $10 the day of the show. Tickets are on sale at Ticketmaster and the Campus Information Center in Old Dominion's Webb University Center.

Lava/Atlantic recording artist Edwin McCain's third label release, "Messenger," is a follow-up to his 1997 breakthrough album, "Misguided Roses." That album highlighted by the Top 10 hit, "I'll Be" earned the South Carolina-based singer/songwriter his first gold album certification from the Recording Industry Association of America. The album's first single, "I Could Not Ask for More," was originally featured on Atlantic's companion soundtrack to the hit Warner Brothers' film, "Message in a Bottle." The Roots, a Philadephia-based musical group at the top of the rap scene, call themselves "hip hop traditionalists." They have produced four albums in the past decade and most recently won their first Grammy Award. Their most recent album, "Things Fall Apart," provides a diverse palette of compositional flavors, including #54, their 54th recorded song in the group's career. The concert is sponsored by Old Dominion University and WPTE, "The Point" (94.9), and produced by Whisper Entertainment.
