UNC MARINE SCIENTIST WILL DISCUSS LARVAL MIGRATION MARCH 2

Rick Luettich of the University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill's Institute of Marine Sciences will discuss "Circulation and Larval Transport Near a Barrier Island Inlet" from 3-4 p.m. Thursday, March 2, in Room 200 of the Oceanography and Physical Sciences Building at Old Dominion University.

The session is part of the Department of Ocean, Earth and Atmospheric Sciences Seminar Series. Refreshments will be served at 2:30 p.m. on the fourth floor.

Luettich will explain how fish migrate as larvae through inlets of barrier islands to coastal ocean waters. As much as 80 percent of commercially valuable fish caught in North Carolina make such a journey. A 1996 study of larvae near Beaufort Inlet, N.C., documented one such trek.
