STANLEY WALKER TO SPEAK ON HIS 36-YEAR CAREER IN VIRGINIA GENERAL ASSEMBLY
Former Virginia Sen. Stanley C. Walker will discuss "The Virginia General Assembly, 1964-2000: A Personal Retrospective" at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 29, in the Burgess Room of the Batten Arts and Letters Building.
A question-and-answer period will follow the lecture, which is sponsored by the Old Dominion chapter of Phi Alpha Theta, the national history honor society.
In November, Walker -- then president pro tem of the Senate -- was defeated by Republican challenger, businessman D. Nick Rerras, for the 6th Senatorial District seat, which encompasses northern Norfolk and a portion of western Virginia Beach. The race was the most contentious in Walker's 36 years in state politics, he told The Virginian-Pilot.
