UNIVERSITY GALLERY REOPENING AT NEW 21ST STREET LOCATION JAN. 15
Old Dominion's University Gallery will reopen in a new location, 350 W. 21st St., Norfolk, at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 15, with a reception for "That Was Then This Is Now," an exhibition of works by selected past and present faculty and alumni.
The reception will feature a performance piece by assistant professor of art B. Stephen Carpenter II, "S'UP: Portrait of the Artist as a Yo-Man" at 8 p.m. The exhibition will continue through Feb. 27.
Gallery hours are noon to 3 p.m. Monday to Thursday, noon to 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and noon to 4 p.m. Sunday. Entry to the gallery and the Jan. 15 reception is free and open to the public.
The exhibition features works by the following current university faculty: Sharon Beachum, Mark Beagle, Anne Bousquet, Carpenter, Ken Daley, Dianne DeBeixedon, Kevin Gallup, Amy Gerhauser, Carol Hines, Elliott Jones, Clay McGlamory, Victor Pickett, Ron Snapp, William Wagner and Greg Willis. Also on display are pieces by former faculty Wally Dreyer, A. B. Jackson, Richard LaFean, Ernie Mauer, Charles Sibley, Jean Kondo Wiegl and Fay Zetlin.
Works by the following alumni are also in the exhibit: Karen Breeden, Pam Brooks, Sue Christian, Jack Cloud, Richard Dooling, Jay Galloway, Ed Gibbs, Richard Hovorka, Kim Keever, Elizabeth Leeor, Harriet McCullough, Marty Murphy, Anne Peterson, Laurel Quarberg, Claire Rygg, Druciano Scerbo, Josef Schutzenhofer, Janet Shaughnessy, Tom Siegmund, Tanja Softic, Phyllis Tarver, Michelle Tillander, Virginia Van Horn, Sean Star Wars and Brenda Wright.
The work is from the artists' collections, the art department's collection and the private collections of Elizabeth Lipsmeyer, Nancy Shelton, Robert Wojtowicz, Linda McGreevy and Tim Cooper, and Fred Bayersdorfer and John Wills.
Old Dominion has been without a formal exhibition space since April 1998, when its former gallery at 765 Granby St., which was leased, closed when the building was sold. The university had operated that gallery continuously since 1973.
