Gordon C. Buhrer of Virginia Beach, assistant professor emeritus of management information systems and decision sciences, died Jan. 15, 2000. He was 80.

Buhrer, who retired from Old Dominion in May 1990, joined the faculty in 1965 as a part-time lecturer, moving to full-time status in 1972. He was promoted to assistant professor in 1987. At the time of his death, he had been employed as a

In the summer of 1977, Buhrer was appointed assistant vice president for academic affairs, with responsibility for resources management. He served in the position until 1986. During that time he also completed his doctoral studies at George Washington University, receiving his doctorate in business administration in 1980.

After his assignment in the Office of Academic Affairs, Buhrer returned to the College of Business and Public Administration, where he taught until his retirement.

In addition to his career at Old Dominion, Buhrer served for 30 years in the U.S. Navy after his graduation from Annapolis in 1942. He retired from the service in July 1972 with the rank of captain.

He is survived by his wife, Drusilla N. Buhrer; and two daughters, Nancy Elizabeth Buhrer of New Jersey and Katherine Buhrer of Virginia Beach. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 28, at the Naval Air Station Oceana Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
