CHRONICLE OF HIGHER EDUCATION PUTS SPOTLIGHT ON OLD DOMINION'S MILITARY CAREER TRANSITION PROGRAM
Old Dominion University's Military Career Transition Program, part of the Darden College of Education, is the focus of an article in this week's Chronicle of Higher Education.
The article, "Colleges Widen Alternate Routes to Teacher Certification," emphasizes alternative programs for teacher education. The issue has been widely debated across the country, as school systems try to find teachers to fill vacant positions in the classroom, particularly in math and science.
Dave Lewellyn, an Old Dominion graduate who teaches at Norfolk Collegiate, was interviewed about his experience with the program and how his classroom experience has benefited from his military background. Robert MacDonald, director of MCTP, was also quoted on the reasons why military retirees are turning to the classroom for second careers.
The article can be found in the Chronicle's faculty section on page A18.
