OLD DOMINION SPORTS TEAMS PREPARE FOR POST-SEASON
It was a historic weekend for Old Dominion sports teams. The 16th-ranked men's soccer squad claimed its first-ever Colonial Athletic Association regular-season title with a 3-1 win Saturday over UNC-Wilmington. The field hockey team (15-6) also claimed its eighth CAA tournament title with a 3-1 win over James Madison.
Later this week, the Lady Monarchs will be making their 19th straight NCAA Tournament appearance, more than any other NCAA Division I school. The defending national champions have won eight titles.
Old Dominion's Marina DiGiacomo was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player. She and coach Beth Anders were also named CAA player and coach of the year.
The soccer team finishes the regular season at 14-3-0, 7-1-0 in the CAA. The win assures Old Dominion its first-ever top seed going into next week's CAA Tournament at the Virginia Beach Sportsplex. Old Dominion will play the winner of the #8/#9 play-in game on Wednesday night at 7:30 p.m.
