EIGHTH MID-ATLANTIC SYMPOSIUM ON EDUCATION ADDRESSING VIRGINIA'S SOLs TO BE HELD NOV. 13-14

Old Dominion University's Darden College of Education will hold the eighth Mid-Atlantic Symposium on Education Nov. 13-14 at the Sheraton Inn Oceanfront in Virginia Beach. "Best Practices for Addressing Virginia Standards of Learning: Attainment and Success," is open to all educators, school administrators, parents, students, mental health professionals and community agency personnel.

This year's keynote speaker, Richard Layman, assistant superintendent of the Virginia Department of Education, will discuss
"Virginia Governor's Best Practices Centers."

More than 20 sessions will be offered throughout the symposium, focusing on issues such as SOL training, instructional technology, alternative/special programs, inclusion/diversity in the classroom and dealing with at-risk students.

The cost is $119. Discounts are available for full-time students. Professionals can earn continuing education units. For more information or to register, call 683-4686.

A presymposium workshop, titled "Pulling It All Together: Strategies for Addressing SOLs and Positive Behavior Support," will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 12. Renee Bradley from the U.S. Office of Special Education Programs will discuss research-based instruction, and federal and state special education requirements.

The preregistration cost is $40 and $50 the day of the workshop. The presymposium workshop is limited to 50 people. For more information or to register, call 540-373-6311.
