WEEKEND SHUTTLE BUS SERVICE TO MACARTHUR CENTER BEGINS OCT. 1

Old Dominion will offer a free weekend shuttle bus service to Ghent and the MacArthur Center starting Friday, Oct. 1.

Buses will run from campus to the new Norfolk mall 6 p.m. to 1 a.m . Friday and Saturday, and noon to 6 p.m. Sunday. The last bus will leave campus at midnight on Friday and Saturday, and at 5 p.m. on Sunday.

Buses will depart from campus every hour on the hour from Lot 32 at Powhatan Apartments and on the half hour from MacArthur Center. Stops will be made along the way at Gresham Hall, Food Lion at 25th Street and Colley Avenue, and the Ghent area in front of the 7-11 Store at Colley Avenue and Washington Park.

The run to MacArthur Center should take about 20 minutes. The valet parking area at the mall will be used as the drop-off and pick-up point.

"If the bus arrives at MacArthur Center early it will wait until the half hour to depart," said James W. Long, director of parking and transportation.

The shuttle service is available free of charge to students, faculty, staff and visitors to the university.

"This new service is being offered to students, in particular, to provide them with safe transport to shops, restaurants and other businesses that aren't within walking distance of the campus," said David F. Harnage, vice president for administration and finance.
