PROGRAM TO FOCUS ON "10 THINGS EVERY PARENT SHOULD KNOW"
Katharine C. Kersey, chair of the early childhood, speech language pathology and special education department at Old Dominion University, will give a talk on "10 Things Every Parent Should Know" from 7:15 � 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 15. Free and open to the public, the presentation will be held in the Kiwanis Parenting Center at Old Dominion's Child Study Center.
The talk will offer parents positive parenting, discipline techniques that work and how to teach children to be responsible. The presentation will focus on children in grades kindergarten through fourth grade. It is sponsored by the Old Dominion University Parenting Center, South Hampton Roads Parenting Network of Healthy Families, and Pride in Parenting of St. Mary's Home for Disabled Children.
Other parenting forums to be held during the fall are "10 Ways to Be a Great Dad" presented Oct. 13 by James H. Davis, director of the Youth Prevention Services Department at the Barry Robinson Center in Norfolk and "Problems in School? What's Next?" presented Nov. 17 by Virginia Van de Water, clinical and school psychologist at Commonwealth Psychiatrics Associates in Norfolk.
