PHYSICS COLLOQUIA SERIES KICKS OFF Oct. 1

The annual Old Dominion University Physics Department Colloquia series will feature eight speakers including researchers from Harvard and Carnegie Mellon universities.

The sessions will be in the Oceanography and Physics Building, Room 200, Fridays from 3 to 4 p.m.; refreshments at 2:30 p.m. Topics/speakers are:

Oct. 1: "Astronomy Faces the Millennium," Virginia Trimble (University of Maryland/Cal-Irvine);
Oct. 8: "Ion Formation Processes in Molecular Plasmas," Martin Schmidt (INP Univ. Greifswald/Germany);
Oct. 15: "100 years of Symmetry in Particle Physics," Howard Georgi (Harvard University);
Nov. 5: "Lattice Gauge Theory - QCD from Quarks to Hadrons," David Richards (Old Dominion/Jefferson Lab);
Nov. 12: "Physics of Few-Nucleon Systems: Leri, Oggi, Domani," Rocco Schiavilla (Old Dominion/Jefferson Lab);
Nov. 19: "Space Based Ultracold Atomic Physics, " Nick Bigelow (University of Rochester);
Dec. 3: "Y2K: How Ready Are We?," Joe Saur (Keane Federal Systems).
