NORFOLK SOUTHERN CORP. CEO DAVID GOODE TO SPEAK OCT. 14

David R. Goode, chairman, president and chief executive officer of Norfolk Southern Corp., the fourth-largest railroad in the country, will speak at the Old Dominion University Economics Club of Hampton Roads luncheon Thursday, Oct. 14.

The event, co-sponsored by Old Dominion's College of Business and Public Administration, will begin at noon at the Sheraton Norfolk Waterside in downtown Norfolk. The cost for non-members is $30. Due to limited space, reservations are required.

Goode will discuss his role in Norfolk Southern's recent $10.5 billion buyout of half of Conrail Inc.'s routes in the Northeast.

He began working for the company in 1965, then called Norfolk and Western Railway, in the tax department. Goode held various positions before being appointed chairman, president, and chief executive officer of Norfolk Southern Corp. in 1992.

Goode earned a bachelor's degree in accounting from Duke University in 1962 and a juris doctorate from Harvard Law School in 1965. The Virginia Press Association recently honored him with its Parks-Mason Memorial Award for Virginian of the Year.

Goode serves on the boards of many organizations, including Delta Air Lines Inc., the Chamber of Commerce of the United States of America and the General Douglas MacArthur Memorial Foundation. He is also a member of the American Society of Corporate Executives, Coal Industry Advisory Board, Virginia Business Council and the American, Virginia, Roanoke and Norfolk Bar associations.
