MARITIME INSTITUTE NAMES INTERIM EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR, PROGRAM MANAGER

Wayne K. Talley and William R. Daniels have been appointed interim executive director and program manager, respectively, of the International Maritime, Ports and Logistics Management Institute in Old Dominion University's College of Business and Public Administration.

Talley, an eminent professor and the Frederick W. Beasley Professor in Economics, has been a member of the Old Dominion faculty since 1972. A nationally and internationally recognized transportation economist, he has been a guest professor at the Institute of Transport and Maritime Management at the University of Antwerp and distinguished visitor at the Institute of Transport Studies at the University of Sydney. This past summer, Talley was a senior research fellow at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution.

An active contributor to maritime transportation journals, he currently serves as general editor of the Journal of the Transportation Research Forum and will be the editor in chief of Transportation Research Part E: Logistics and Transportation Review.

Talley succeeds Geoffrey Motte, who has retired. He will focus on the development of grant and contract research for the institute as well as the coordination of workshops and academic programs.

Daniels joined the university in June. As program manager, he will coordinate the concentration of studies in port and maritime management within the master of business administration and master of public administration programs. In addition, his responsibilities include acting as liaison with the Ports of Hampton Roads and associated organizations and industries.
A graduate of the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, Daniels sailed on various freighters and tankers and has more than 11 years' experience as master on several ships. He worked in hydrographic surveying for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and has served as a consultant for various firms.

Daniels holds a bachelor's degree in nautical science from the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy and a master's in maritime management from the Maine Maritime Academy.
