PRESIDENT KOCH TO DELIVER STATE OF THE UNIVERSITY ADDRESS

President James V. Koch will give his annual State of the University address at 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 26, in the Mills Godwin Jr. Life Sciences Building auditorium.

He will recap highlights from the 1998-99 academic year and share his vision for the future of the university. Among the many
highlights he will mention are: record enrollments and increased admissions selectivity; a successful first-ever capital campaign; the opening of a new higher education center in Virginia Beach; the acquisition of a supercomputer that is the most powerful of any on a Virginia campus; and tremendous achievement overall by university programs, activities and faculty, as reflected by national media coverage.

President Koch also will give an update on the progress of the University Village, a project to develop the east side of
Hampton Boulevard, which he calls "the most significant development in the history of the university."

Additionally, Koch will report the latest developments regarding new facilities for Old Dominion's other regional higher
education centers, discuss the university's Strategic Plan for 2000-05 and announce the names of seven faculty members who
have been selected for the title of University Professor, which signifies outstanding teaching.
