ODU Economists Deliver Peninsula Forecast May 16

Hampton Roads has faced a sluggish recovery from the economic slowdown of 2007-09, but different communities within the region have faced different influences.

Old Dominion University economists will offer predictions for how the Peninsula (Hampton, Newport News, Williamsburg and other communities north of the James River) will fare during the 2017 Economic Forecast Peninsula Breakfast.

The event, presented by Chartway Federal Credit Union, will be at the Newport News Marriott at City Center, on Tuesday, May 16 from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m.

Vinod Agarwal, ODU professor of economics and director of the Strome College of Business Economic Forecasting Project, and Larry "Chip" Filer, associate professor and chair of the Department of Economics, will offer details about the Peninsula's economic outlook for 2017. The forecast will include sections on the real estate market, the Port of Virginia, the military outlook and tourism - all sectors that significantly impact the Peninsula economy.

Registration for the event begins at 7:30 a.m., with a plated breakfast at 8 a.m. and the presentation beginning at 8:30. There is a $25 fee to attend. Attendees are encouraged to register online.

For more information, contact Jackie Shapiro at the Virginia Peninsula Chamber of Commerce, at 757-325-8162.
