ODU to Host NACADA Virginia State Drive-in Conference September 25

In late September, over 100 academic advisors, faculty and administrators from across Virginia will descend upon Old Dominion University to share in a meaningful discussion of current trends and pressing issues on academic advising that are impacting today's college students and their respective institutions.

The Old Dominion Advising Network (ODAN) will host this fall's NACADA state drive-in conference: "Exploring Transitions: Advising for the Future" on Sept. 25 in the Webb University Center. A keynote address will be given by Lonnie Schaffer, vice president for academic affairs at Thomas Nelson Community College.

The one day event will feature concurrent sessions and interactive workshops related to the transitions of a multitude of student populations in higher education including but not limited to:

  • transfer students;
  • first generation students;
  • military students;
  • non-traditional students; and
  • first year students.

NACADA state drive-ins are offered as an affordable opportunity for academic advisors to receive the professional development that is crucial to helping them help students succeed.

A special rate of $15, which covers both the cost of the conference as well as a one-year membership to ODAN, is being offered to the ODU community. This opportunity is only available until Friday, Sept. 4, 2015. To take and advantage and register today, please visit: https://odu.co1.qualtrics.com/SE/?SID=SV_0oKlJEjL4evaPtz

Founded in 2010, the Old Dominion Advising Network (ODAN) provides professional development opportunities to campus constituencies involved in all aspects of advising through the exchange of ideas, best practices and latest trends. Benefits of the ODAN membership include the annual conference, end of year celebration, several events throughout the year, networking and the opportunity to stay up to date in the latest trends, issues and best practices.

ODAN is an official allied member of the National Academic Advising Association (NACADA), and membership is open to the entire campus community including all faculty, staff and graduate students as well as those in non-traditional advising roles.
