Insurance, Risk Management and Financial Planning Careers Reception Set for Feb. 13
January 17, 2013
Approximately 100 professionals from the insurance, financial planning and risk management industries are expected at Old Dominion University's Insurance, Risk Management and Financial Planning Careers Reception on Wednesday, Feb. 13.
The reception, from 5-7 p.m. in Webb Center, is being hosted by ODU's Insurance and Financial Services Center to provide industry-student interaction and make students aware of careers in the fields of insurance and risk management.
"The exhibitors are really recruiters and are available to speak with students about careers and opportunities for hire," said Dennis Harvey, instructor in the finance department and one of the event's organizers. "ODU is one of the leaders in the insurance and financial services industry and in placing students with jobs and internships, and we have scholarship programs as well."
Exhibitors or students who wish to attend the reception are asked to contact Harvey at dharvey@odu.edu or 683-3501.
The College of Business and Public Administration's Insurance and Financial Services Center was founded in 1980. It has evolved into a broad-based resource for students, faculty and professionals in the fields of insurance, risk management and financial services.
Its mandate is to provide educational and financial support for faculty conducting research and in preparing students for insurance, risk management and financial services careers; to increase the interaction of students and the insurance, risk management and financial services industries by regularly bringing industry speakers to ODU classes and clubs; and to develop and offer non-degree educational programs and seminars, such as professional financial planning, for the profession and for the general public.
