When campus computers are patched this month, we will be deploying several software updates. In addition to normal monthly desktop patching, all ODU-managed computers (on and off campus) will get these updates:

Windows

  • Windows 10 version 1909
This is an operating system upgrade that can take up to two hours. It will be pushed to anyone who has not already upgraded.
  • GlobalProtect VPN Client
This update will require you to disconnect from the VPN and reconnect when the update is complete.
  • Skype for Business
We are removing Skype from all ODU-managed computers. This is a Microsoft Office upgrade that will require all of your Office apps to be closed. ODU is now using Teams for persistent chat and instant messaging.

Mac

  • macOS Catalina
This is an operating system upgrade that can take up to two hours.
  • FileVault
We are enabling this built-in disk encryption service. The next time you log in, you will be prompted to enter your password in order to enable FileVault. When FileVault is turned on, your Mac will require that you always log in with your account password.
  • GlobalProtect VPN Client
This update will require you to disconnect from the VPN and reconnect when the update is complete.
  • Microsoft Office 365
This software and licensing update will require a one-time authentication with your MIDAS ID and password.

Remember: Before any upgrade, it is a good idea to store important files in OneDrive and backup your browser bookmarks. (Always check the regulated data matrix before using cloud storage.)

If you have any issues with the upgrade, contact the ITS Help Desk by emailing itshelp@odu.edu. Include a phone number and at least two available times we can reach you.
