During the month of May, we will be deploying Windows 11 to all compatible ODU-managed devices. This installation is necessary as Windows 10 will reach end-of-support on October 14, 2025. If your computer is already running Windows 11, if you only have macOS/Linux devices, or if you are currently an EVMS employee, you can disregard this message.

On the day of your department’s upgrade (see below), we need you to save your work, log off and leave your computer powered on as you leave for the day.

Computers that are on campus and powered on will start updating at 10 p.m.; Windows 11 should be ready for you when you log in the next morning.

Remote machines and computers that are powered off can’t be scheduled for a specific time; they will begin updating as soon as they check into the management server sometime after 10 p.m. If the process starts at a time that’s inconvenient for you, you’ll have the option to delay the upgrade for up to seven days.

If your device is found to be incompatible with Windows 11 (it’s too old, for example), please work with your Budget Unit Director on a lifecycle replacement. New devices now ship with Windows 11 pre-installed.

Remember: You may already do these things, but before any upgrade, it is always a good idea to:

If you have any issues, send an email to the ITS Help Desk at itshelp@odu.edu. Please include a phone number and at least two available times you can be reached.

Thank you for helping us keep Old Dominion University safe and secure!
