Barbara Mann holds a BS in Biology (with a concentration in Botany) and an MBA, both from Virginia Commonwealth University, and recently completed a Certificate in Non-profit Management from Tidewater Community College.
For many years, she was a Lab Manager at Virginia Commonwealth University in the Department of Anatomy and Neurobiology where she worked on projects that mapped neural pathways which innervate the oculomotor and vestibular systems. She served as Program Manager at Virginia Space Grant Consortium for the NASA Global Climate Change Education program and Program Director at the ODU Business Gateway (now Center for Enterprise Innovation) for a US Department of Transportation project working with small businesses.
As a producing studio artist, she began writing grants to the Virginia Commission for the Arts to fund Artist-in-Residence programs for school systems in the Greater Richmond area. Since then, she has authored proposals to the National Science Foundation, NASA, Virginia Department of Social Services, US Department of Transportation, US Department of Education, Small Business Administration, Virginia Community College System, as well as a number of corporate and private foundations.
In addition to her work in the Office of Research at ODU, she continues to be involved in the arts, doing several retail shows a year with her pottery and serving on the board of the Carolina Designer Craftsmen Guild.
