Show Info

Production #1: Do You Know Me?

Written and dIrected by Patrick Mullins

Do You Know Me? will be entirely virtual, with live stream dates of March 11-14.

In this theatrically devised digital presentation, actors and community members will work together in exploring themes of immigration, home, and what it is to be an outsider. Inspired by the Ancient Greek romance novel, Apollonius of Tyre, the production's exploration will use Shakespeare's Comedy of Errors as its theatrical source text. Do You Know Me? is being created in collaboration with Virginia Stage Company's Public Works Virginia and generously supported by the Hellenic Studies Endowment.

Production #2: LIVE Drive-In Theatre at ODU! ODURep & ODU Opera, in collaboration with Warehouse of Theatre, present WORKING - A CELEBRATION OF THE ESSENTIAL WORKER.

Live Outdoor Musical Theatre, Brock Commons, April 15-18 (rain dates: April 20-23)

Auditions are open only for ODU students, staff or faculty.

NOTE: if you aren't on campus next semester, audition anyway! Some performers may be remote.

WORKING is from the book by Studs Terkel, adapted by Nina Faso and Stephen Schwartz, with additional contributions by Lin Manuel-Miranda, James Taylor, Gordon Greenberg, Craig Carnelia, Mary Rodgers, Micki Grant, and Susan Burkhead.

The Creative Team for this production includes Katherine Hammond (director), Brian Nedvin (music director), Woody Robinson (set & lights), Lee Smith (projections/live video feed), Ricardo Melendez (choreography), Meredith Magoun (costumes), Justin McLawhorn (sound), & Jim Lyden (TD), with Chris Hanna producing.

This production will be presented as a Drive-in Performance on Brock Commons - Live and in person!

Rehearsals are yet to be determined, but we are anticipating they will be both remote and in person based on COVID activity.

NOTE: All Actors Equity, USITT and ODU protocols will be followed for Actor and Audience safety.

Why WORKING?

Recognizing now, more than ever, that our lives depend on the under-appreciated work of those who are seldom celebrated, WORKING celebrates the dignity, pride and indomitability of the American Worker who keeps the country moving.

Written in 1974 and updated in 2012, WORKING is episodic documentary musical theatre. Taken from interviews with people across the country, WORKING illuminates the lives of essential workers that are often takes for granted. Through 26 real-life stories of waitresses, truckers, teachers, and others, WORKING explores how success isn't always reflected in salary.

Be a part of this live, in-person stage production which may also feature remote performances!
