ADP Installs the ADP HCM Academy and Lab in the Strome College of Business

To be successful in any field today, you have to know the information technology that powers that field. This is one of the driving principles leading Strome College of Business to partner with important providers like ADP. Given the success ADP has had in hiring Monarchs, they were thrilled to officially partner with the Strome College to create the ADP Human Capital Management Academy. The Academy, housed in a newly renovated computer lab, will feature ADP HCM software, the primary platform used in human capital management in U.S. businesses today. ADP committed $500,000 to the Academy, in both software and with funds that made the renovation possible.

However, the Academy is more than just software. As Dianne Green, DVP General Manager for OneADP Norfolk and OneADP Louisville notes, the goal for the Academy and for the partnership is to learn technology-enabled human capital management. Dianne shared, "ADP is excited to partner with Strome School of Business to nurture and develop the next generation of Human Capital Management professionals."

"Because the goal is to learn technology-enabled human resource decision-making," Dean Jeff Tanner further explained, "we're also creating case studies and other learning tools that take advantage of the ADP platform."

Dr. Ryan Klinger, Associate Professor of Management, is leading the development of the lab. Klinger described the partnership, "So many of our strategic goals are neatly aligned and this seems like a natural extension of our already strong relationship." He added, "We're excited about the variety of resources ADP is providing to support the HCM Academy. In addition to access to new learning tools to make the classroom a more immersive, hands-on learning environment, ADP is creating internship pipelines and networking opportunities for Academy students. They've also developed a communication link directly between our Academy and the ADP executive team, so our students will gain invaluable professional experience by asking questions and learning directly from industry leaders throughout the program."

Faculty are currently redesigning course curriculum to include technology demonstrations that support the learning content. Students will learn how to use ADP's cutting-edge HR technology platforms to coordinate HR functions and make data-supported decisions. For instance, in the new HR Analytics course, students have free access beginning the first day of class to ADP's Workforce Now platform used by organizations as an all-on-one HR management program. Students will take control of a fictitious company with 300+ employees and will have create and analyze HR data for these employees (start date, job title, compensation rate, performance evaluations, etc.). "As we learn about challenging HR issues, students will apply the software to identify issues in their company before creating and implementing solutions. This partnership will allow students to take advantage of learning-by-doing based on simulation and role-playing rather than traditional lectures and note-taking" said Klinger.

While the influence on the program is immediate, the Academy will begin accepting students for classes beginning in the fall, 2020. "The Academy will be a perfect fit for students who want to pursue a career in human resource management and are looking to distinguish themselves from the competition for jobs," noted Klinger.

As Dean Tanner often says, "We don't want to teach the history of business; we want our students to be prepared for the future of business." The ADP HCM Academy will be an exciting and important addition for Strome's Human Resource majors.
